The Joslyn Senior Center's Meals On Wheels
delivers prepared meals to seniors over the age of 60 who are unable
to cook meals for themselves due to physical or social reasons.
The service areas are Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert and
Sun City. The meals are delivered Monday through Friday mornings
and can be reheated anytime through the day.
A social worker will meet with each senior before
they begin receiving meals to determine their specific needs and
if they need assistance in other areas. Many times the volunteer
delivering the meals will be the only personal contact that is made
for the senior each day. An average of 75 individuals are delivered
daily with over 19,000 meals delivered annually. The cost per meal
is $4.25, however the inability to pay the full amount will not
stop any senior from receiving meals. Grants and donations help
cover the cost for those seniors that cannot afford to pay.
