Social Worker
A professional social worker is available to assess
each senior that requests to receive Meals On Wheels before they
are admitted to the program. They will determine if the senior needs
to have home delivered meals, the type of meals required, how long
the service is needed and determine if any financial assistance
is needed to pay for the meals. If other social services are necessary,
the social worker can make the appropriate referrals and follow
up with the client as necessary.
The social worker is also used to visit seniors
in their homes that may need assistance or information on resources
available to them. Referrals can be made to agencies that provide
transportation, home health and care giving, financial assistance,
housing, medical equipment, home delivered meals, elder abuse prevention
and other services.
Community Events
The Joslyn Senior Center participates in expos
and events throughout the Coachella Valley to promote the services
that are provided. Volunteers and staff will distribute information
at business expos, senior health fairs, community events, family
events and other special events.
